Keeping in Touch With Peru Trip -- February, 2007

Prayer for Peru Team

Your Praying Your Giving Your Going Your Knowing
Wed, February 14

From Harriette:

I found a telephone message from Wayne when I arrived home this evening giving an update of what the mission group was doing today and wishing everyone a Happy Valentine's Day

Yesterday there was a party at the orphanage in Cusco for the children, and today the group traveled to Machu Picchu and will tour the ruins of the ancient city tomorrow after which they will return to Cusco.

On Friday afternoon they will leave Cusco for Lima and spend some time there visiting the orphanage at Chilca on Sat. and seeing the city before leaving to fly home on Sunday evening. They will arrive back on Monday afternoon.

Their flight home is routed through Chicago, so let's all hope that the weather moderates a bit and there won't be any delays.  Sounds as if the group is having a great time.

Thanks for your prayers.

Tuesday, February 13 From Drew:

I wanted to write to give you and the church an update on our trip.  Everyone is fine, with the exception of Laurabeth who is a little sick right now.  I hope she will be better tomorrow.  My students are doing great, they have blended in with the boys well, they are playing a lot of soccer.  Larry, Debbie, Aaron and Wayne are all doing well.  They are enjoying the people and all that we are doing.  They send their greetings.

We all have enjoyed spending time with the kids, taking the kids out to eat and buying things to meet their needs.  We replaced the tools that were stolen before.  We are beginning the work of improving their bathroom and replacing some doors.  We will leave funds for fruit and any other daily needs.

We have spent much time talking about their facilities and their needs.  We would ask that you and the church pray for wisdom about decisions we should make to improve their quality of life and their ministry.  Thank you for supporting us in this trip.  They greatly appreciate our involvement in their lives including the clothes, finances and the beautiful building they and we are currently living in.

Tomorrow we head for Machu Picchu.  We may have another half of a day with those at Elim.  We look forward to sharing our experience with you.

Tuesday, February 13 Drew (MAJ Harris) called Ms. Wells today at CHA to update her on the trip. They've been having so much fun this was the first chance he has had to call. They had a little travel trouble getting from Lima to Cusco - their flight was cancelled but they got on the next one that left thirty or so minutes later. It was no big deal. Cadet Ward and Laura Beth suffered from altitude sickness once they got to Cusco but are feeling much better now.

They have been splitting their time between the boys' and girls' orphanages. The girls' ages range from 3-13 years old and the boys are about 13-18 years old. Cadets Lightsey and Albert-Faluyi were quiet at first since they were on the young side with the Cusco boys but have come out of their shells by playing soccer and such. Cadet Ward has been the spokesman for the three Cadets.

Today is their last day at the orphanage as tomorrow they will head up to Machu Picchu. They will probably visit the orphanages again once they return to Cusco in three days.

Sunday, February 11 We had church service with the children this morning and the CHA cadets played basketball and soccer with the boys from Elim. Later in the day we went to the market and bought some food. Debbie plans to cook this evening. We will go to the boys orphanage tomorrow and help out some there. The children are so great. This is a fantastic ministry especially when you think about what would happen to the children if the orphanage were not here.

We will be going to Machu Picchu on Wednesday and return here on Thursday. Please keep us in your prayers.

Love in Christ, Wayne

Saturday, February 10 Wayne called Harriette about 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Our mission group had a safe flight through the night and had arrived in Cusco from Lima about 10:30. They did not manage to get any sleep on their overnight flight, but they are all so very excited to be there.  Wayne said the little girls at the orphanage where they are staying range in age from three and up and are so precious.  The girls all came running to meet them and give them a hug.  The plan for the rest of the day was to rest and sleep a bit before any more activities.  He said that the altitude may take some getting used to.  They had to walk a distance to lunch, and I think he experienced it firsthand.  He is looking forward to making a difference on this trip. Please continue to remember them in your prayers.
